Beam fixity - rotation fixed/deflection free

Occasionally, a multi-span beam is most efficiently modeled when an end support can be set to allow deflection but to fix the rotation, such as what might occur in the middle of a continuous span. Similar results might be attainable by continuing the model further with additional length and supports, but not always.

I therefore put that forth as a request to review the possibility of adding that fixity option to the Support/Brace Types available in the beam definition table.

Thank you for your message! We truly appreciate your feedback and suggestions for new features. I’ve added your request to our list of potential enhancements, as it could significantly improve the flexibility of modeling multi-span beams in our calculators.

Just to confirm, you’re looking to add a support type with the following conditions:

  • Allows vertical deflection (enabling the beam to move up or down at that point)
  • Restricts rotational movement (preventing the beam from rotating at that point)

Please let me know if this aligns with what you had in mind!

Yes, exactly. Thank you.
