Slenderness Override

I have a project wherein the owner would prefer to use small HSS members for columns instead of timbers… since these will be very lightly loaded, while they don’t meet the traditional cut-off of KL/r < 200, they will work fine using the newer method of calculation wherein you take a reduction and get on with it… imagine my surprise when I found out Clearcalcs will fail out members not meeting KL/r < 200…

Can you please change this to a warning instead of a failure, as this “requirement” was abandoned nearly 20 years ago in 2005?

Cheers,

-Andrew

Hey Andrew,

Thanks for the suggestion - funnily enough I used to be in my University’s steel bridge team and this was a common constraint we faced for our more slender members. Agreed - the code is pretty clear it’s a recommendation but not a hard limit, to use their words, the slenderness should “preferably should not exceed 200”

Appreciate the feedback here - we’ll aim to change this shortly.

Thanks,

Laurent

Excellent, thank you for the update, Laurent!
